WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT THEN?
=========================
Imperium Galactica II - Alliances, is the sequel to the critically acclaimed
Imperium Galactica. Drawing on the many successful elements of its predecessor,
it takes the concept to a new level by seamlessly integrating these different
elements into a unique and beautiful 3D interface. The game is accessible to
beginners and challenging to experts.
In Imperium Galactica II you play the leader of an empire. From your computer
screen you can view your entire empire from a vantage point millions of miles
away in space then seamlessly move into the heat of a battle and observe the
actions of a small fighter ship only a few meters long. You can move through
the atmospheres of worlds and explore their varying landscapes and weather
conditions. You can construct colonies on these worlds and use them to produce
materials to sustain your citizens and expand your empire. You can invent new
designs and equip them to ships and tanks to create your own customised
vehicles. You can engage in diplomacy with other races, trade with them, make
war on them and even spy on them. You can receive messages and missions from
other inhabitants of the galaxy and choose to act on them as you will.
WHAT'S IN THE GAME?
===================
Imperium Galactica II contains a number of different game modules.
Campaign Games (disabled in this demo):
Campaign games are games of galactic conquest that also follow a story. You
can choose to play as the leader of one of three races, each with their own
technologies, capabilities and story lines. Random mission elements mean there
are many different routes to follow to reach the end of each story line.
Campaign games can be played at three difficulty levels.
Scenarios (three scenarios are enabled in this demo):
Scenarios are smaller games that take less time to play than a full campaign
game. Each scenario has a different objective that must be achieved if you are
to be successful. Additional scenarios will be made available over time.
Multiplayer (disabled in this demo)
Up to eight players can compete in a game of galactic conquest over a LAN or
Internet connection.
Tutorial (enabled in this demo)
The Tutorial teaches you how to play Imperium Galactica II.
Odds and End
Imperium Galactica also contains over one hour of FMV and nearly an hour of
original music on its four CD's!
WHAT'S IN THE DEMO?
===================
The demo contains three different scenarios to play as well as the game
tutorial. The three scenarios should supply several hours of gameplay.
INSTALLING THE DEMO
===================
Before you install the demo you should ensure your computer system meets or
exceeds the minimum system requirements.
Windows 95 or 98 operating system
Intel Pentium 233Mhz processor or 100% compatible (or faster)
32 megabytes of RAM
Direct 3D compatible 3D accelerator graphics card (THE GAME WILL NOT WORK
WITHOUT ONE!)
Direct sound compatible sound card
4x (Quad) speed CD-ROM drive (or faster)
A Pentium II 300 or faster Processor, 64 Megabytes (or more) of RAM and a
fast, modern, 3D card are recommended.
DirectX 7 must be installed before the demo can be run. This is not supplied
with the demo.
Run SETUP.EXE to begin the Installation process. Follow the on-screen
instructions.
When the demo has installed, you need to configure it. Run the SETUP program
in PROGRAMS/IMPERIUM GALACTICA 2 DEMO directory of your START button. Make
sure you select the correct sound and video device.
When the demo is configured, you can play by running IG2 Demo program in
PROGRAMS/IMPERIUM GALACTICA 2 DEMO directory of your START button.
GRAPHICS ISSUES
===============
While every effort has been made to ensure Imperium Galactica II works with
the largest possible number of graphics cards, problems may occur with
particular (and mainly older) cards and cards that have not been tested.
Imperium Galactica II utilises a number of advanced graphics effects (such as
transparencies and shadows). Certain graphics cards may not be capable of
correctly displaying these effects and may display the effect as corruption.
It may be possible to play Imperium Galactica II on these cards by switching
off various effects (such as shadows) using the in-game options screen.
If you experience any graphical problems, please make sure that you have
DirectX 7 and the latest graphics drivers for your graphics card installed.
The latest drivers for your graphics card should be available from the
manufacturer via their web site.
The following graphics cards / chipsets do not support the necessary 3D
functions to run Imperium Galactica II and will not work. This list may not
include all the graphics cards / chipsets that do not work with Imperium
Galactica II.
Matrox Millennium
Matrox Millennium II
Matrox Mystique
Matrox G100
Power VR 1 based cards
S3 Trio based cards
The following graphics cards / chipsets have been tested with Imperium
Galactica II with no recorded problems. This list may not include all the
graphics cards / chipsets that work with Imperium Galactica II.
3DFX Voodoo 1 based cards
3DFX Voodoo 2 based cards
3DFX Voodoo 2 based cards in SLI Mode
3DFX Voodoo 3_2000 based cards
3DFX Voodoo 3_3000 based cards
3DFX Voodoo 3_3500 based cards
3DFX Voodoo Rush
3DFX Voodoo Banshee
ATI Rage 3D PRO
ATI Rage Fury
ATI Xpert@play 98
ATI Xpert@work 98
ATI Xpert 2000
Intel i740 based cards
Matrox G200
Matrox G400
nVidia 128 based cards
nVidia TNT based cards
nVidia TNT 2 based cards
nVidia GeForce 256 based cards
Permedia FireGL based cards
Savage 3D
Savage 4
Although every effort has been made to test different graphics cards that use the
same chipset, it is possible that a certain cards incorporating an allegedly
"working" chipset may function incorrectly when used with Imperium Galactica
II.
If this is the case, you should ensure that the latest drivers intended for
specific use with your card are installed. If Imperium Galactica II still does
not function correctly, you may be able to obtain reference drivers for you
chipset from the chipset manufacturer. These drivers may work instead.
GENERAL SPEED ISSUES
====================
Imperium Galactica II is a large and complex game and will work better on more
powerful computers. There are a number of ways to speed up performance on your
computer.
CORRECT SETUP
Make sure that your PC is correctly setup and functioning properly. Make sure
all drivers for all hardware are installed and functioning. If your drives
support DMA access make sure this is activated. Make sure that you have plenty of
disk space and that the hard disk is defragmented.
BACKGROUND APPLICATIONS
Make sure that you have as few programs as possible running at the same time
as Imperium Galactica II. Running other programs can seriously affect the
performance of Imperium Galactica II.
RAM
The more RAM you have in your computer, the better. The game can be played
perfectly reasonably on a 32 Megabyte computer but installing more RAM will
will improve the performance of Imperium Galactica II. If you have 128
Megabytes of RAM in your computer, installing more memory should have a
negligible effect on performance.
GRAPHICS CARD
Installing a modern, Direct 3D compatible graphics card should result in
improved performance. All the cards on the compatible list will work well,
but more modern cards should be faster.
PROCESSOR
Installing a faster processor should increase the performance of Imperium
Galactica II. Owners of standard Pentium I processors should notice a large
speed increase if upgrading to a faster, Pentium II or III class processor.
CD-ROM
Faster CD-ROM drives will enable graphics and sound on the CD's to be loaded
more quickly. If your CD-ROM drive supports DMA, make sure this is enabled.
GAME OPTIONS
There are several graphical features that can be switched off using the
in-game "Options" screen that may improve performance on slower machines.
INCREASING THE SWAPFILE SIZE (Experts Only!)
Increasing the size of the Windows swapfile may improve performance of
Imperium Galactica II. This is especially relevant for machines with smaller
amounts of RAM. 500 Megabytes is a reasonable figure.
FILE SYSTEM (Experts Only!)
Changing the Windows file system properties may increase performance of
Imperium Galactica II. Make sure read ahead optimisation is set to "Full" and #
that the CD-ROM cache is "Large" and the read ahead setting is set to "Quad
Speed or Higher". Changing the typical role of the machine to "Network Server"
can also have a positive effect.
PLAYING THE GAME
================
When the demo has loaded you will be presented with the main menu screen. Only
two options are available in the demo, the tutorial and scenarios. We
recommend you play the tutorial first, as it will teach you how to play the
game.
To play the tutorial, move the mouse cursor over the tutorial icon and click
the left mouse button. Then, move the mouse cursor over the tutorial part you
wish to play then click the left mouse button.
To play a scenario, move the mouse cursor over the single player icon and
click the left mouse button. Then, move the mouse cursor over scenario and
click the left mouse button. On the left side of the screen is a list of all
the available scenarios. Move the mouse cursor over the desired scenario and
click the left mouse button to select.
CONTROLLING THE GAME
====================
The game is controlled using a combination of mouse and keyboard. Moving the
mouse cursor over an icon for a short while will display a tooltip describing
that icons' function. Most icons can be left clicked. Some can be right
clicked. Left clicking then holding down the mouse button can be used to
select icons from lists.

A BRIEF GUIDE TO PLAYING THE GAME
=================================
PLAY THE TUTORIAL
Look, PLAY THE TUTORIAL!!!! (OK!) It will teach you most things you need to
know!
USE PAUSE
The first thing you should do when the game has started is to pause time and
take stock of your situation. It is important to remember that even though
time is paused, you can still issue orders. These orders will then be carried
out when time is restarted. You should pause time as often as necessary
throughout the game in order to make better decisions it can be the difference
between success and failure.
DONT'T WASTE MONEY
When you start a new game, every credit should be spent wisely. If you
needlessly build ships and buildings you will soon run out of credits and it
will become more difficult to make rapid progress.
